Founded in 1971 in Meguro-ku, Tokyo, Japan, THK Co., Ltd. stands for "Toughness, High Quality, and Know-how." In 1972, THK became the world's first company to develop a method of linear motion through rolling contact and began manufacturing and commercializing the result: the Linear Motion (LM) Guide. THK has earned global recognition for its unique mechanical components, including LM guide equipment, ball splines, ball screws, and link balls. THK's linear motion series products are widely used in machine tools, machining centers, automobiles, rubber, packaging, industrial robots, semiconductor manufacturing equipment, medical devices, and various other electronic controllers. Through its proprietary technological expertise, THK solved the problem of rolling contact linear motion that was once considered difficult to overcome, and in 1972 became the world's first company to develop and commercialize the Linear Motion (LM) Guide. The use of our linear motion systems can rapidly improve the precision and speed of advanced electromechanical devices while saving labor input. THK's LM rolling guides enable ultra-high-precision operations in machine tools and industrial automation machinery, and allow semiconductor manufacturing equipment to operate within sub-micron tolerances. Recently, these systems have also been applied in LCD production lines, railway passenger cars, mobility aids for the disabled, medical equipment, skyscrapers, residential buildings, and recreational facilities. The application scope of LM rolling guides has transcended all previous limitations. R&D Strengths: THK's R&D department was established based on the Technical Center founded in Tokyo in 2005, with additional R&D bases in Yamanashi City, Yamaguchi City, and Yamagata City in Japan. A total of approximately 150 employees are engaged in R&D work. The Engineering and Development Department plays a central role in the product development process, and our project-oriented development system enables unprecedented speed in product development. We have also established organizations such as the Business Development Department to support product development and explore new frontiers. Since 2005, THK's Technical Center has championed the slogan "Manufacturing human-centered products." Guided by the core concepts of "large-scale," "micro-manufacturing," and "mechanical vibration damping," we are actively developing next-generation products designed to meet market demands over the next five to ten years, including needs that customers have not yet recognized. THK will also expand its product lineup to meet customers' current needs. Furthermore, while continuing to improve and develop our global manufacturing and sales systems, we will also develop our product development systems in appropriate regions, including the United States, Europe, and Asia, so that we can respond more effectively to customer needs.
